Ravel Prelude

This beautiful piece by Maurice Ravel is an excerpt from a solo piano work titled “Le Tombeau de Couperin”. Gary Burton first recorded it on his  album “Country Roads and Other Places”. It is a fun and challenging piece to prepare because of the lengthy and intricate melody lines.

“Be Thou With Me” is an Aria, and has been arranged here as a solo piece for vibes. The music of Bach can be easily adapted for vibes. Especially useful are the collections of Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin by Bach. These pieces fit perfectly on the vibes or marimba and make challenging and satisfying 4 mallet studies. Letter From Home

This piece was originally the title track to Pat Metheny’s 1989 CD “Letter From Home”. Pat recorded the tune as a duet with Lyle Mays. The Bachianas brasileiras No. 5 is one in a series of nine suites by the BrazilianHeitor Villa-Lobos, written for various combinations of instruments and voices between 1930 and 1945. Each represents a fusion between Brazilian folk and popular music and the style of Johann Sebastian Bach. No. 5 was originally written for soprano and 8 cellos (1938/45).
